Silicone Surfactant

L-5340 was developed to fill the rigid foam industry's need for a very efficient,
isocyanate-compatible, liquid surfactant. In very critical laboratory tests, L-5340 proves to be highly efficient in many types of formulations.
L-5340 can be used in formulations containing crude TDI or polymeric MDI and provide
table isocyanate blends. It can be used to stabilize standard formulations where an isocyanate-compatible product is desired, and should be evaluated in those formulations where the standard surfactants are inadequate to provide the desired performance properties. The ability of L-5340 to stabilize formulations with high hydroxyl polyols and water is an example of its unique performance.
With the recent trend toward higher isocyanate indices common in isocyanate foam
formulations have come new requirements for the silicone surfactant. This relatively new technology has increased the ratio of isocyanate to polyol, thus placing increased importance on the ability of polyol and isocyanate to emulsify efficinetly.
L-5340 has been demonstrated as an excellent product in these types of applications
because of its ability to improve this mixing.

¡Ý Imparts chemical stability and compatibility in both crude TDI and polymeric isocyanate
¡Ý Stabilizes efficiently conventional and partially water blown formulations at low
surfactant levels
¡Ý Maximizes fluorocarbon retention by preventing cell coalescence which produces
lower in-place densities.
¡Ý Produces fine, uniform cell structures with a high degree of closed cells
¡Ý Improves the mixing of polyol and isocyanate even at the high isocyanate levels
typical of isocyanurate foam formulations.

¢ºPerformance Data
The Optimum concentration of L-5340 depends on many variables, such as formulation
ingredients, type of application, or mold complexity. A starting concentration of 1.0~1.5 parts by weight per 100 parts of polyol is recommended. This generally corresponds to 0.5~0.6 weight percent based on the total formulation. In isocyanate foam, this recommended use level may need to be increased. The best loading should be determined using each specific formulation and type of equipment.
